Alright so blonde may not be ideal for a potential Jamie Fraser actor and he's not Scottish but on the bright side he is 6'4" and he is a "real" Viking ... or at least he comes from that part of the world. Well actually when someone first mentioned him as a potential Jamie I wasn't that impressed (not that I didn't think he was as sexy as a big bar of chocolate covered yumminess you understand) but he just didn't immediately make me think of our resident ginner Scot!
HOWEVER, (I thought it deserved capitals), after almost swooning over his latest TV escapades and sitting slack jawed at recent, almost naked, pictures of him this particular actor has been seen in a slightly better light and so without further a do I'd like to introduce you to another potential Jamie actor .....

Alexander Skarsgard a.k.a Eric Northman
From Trueblood!
Now, if you aren't familiar with Trueblood you have to realise that those teeth aren't permanent, in fact they aren't even real as Alex is playing a vampire in the photograph.
I hear you ask two questions though:
Question 1: Why is he in sunlight?
Answer: I have no idea because this is from season 4 and I'm only half way through season 3.
Question 2: What were they thinking calling him Eric the Viking?
Answer: I have no idea but perhaps it's just me who thought how lame the name was.
Now as beautiful as that body is he has a very strange expression on his face in the photograph above. (probably because he's out in the sunshine for the first time in a thousand year) so below are a few other facial shots of Mr Skarsgard.
So maybe he doesn't have red hair, cat eyes or a long nose and even if you hate the idea of him playing Jamie Fraser well guess what? He's pretty and I like looking at him!

mmmmmm a possibility, I will have to study the pics a bit more though.....
ewwwww...sorry, not my idea of a Jamie...can't get past those ugly teeth and short red hair.
Hello! I recently discovered your blog and just had to comment on this post...Mr. Skarsgard has been "my Jamie" for a long time now and I second your notion! I actually think he does have cat eyes, I have a poster of him - which embarasses me to admit, but anyhoo - and when I started reading Outlander, I kept envisioning his eyes from the poster during the description of Jamie!
If you haven't made it to season 4 of True Blood yet, you are in for a treat ;) I have a lot of pretty pics of him on my blog too, verra swoon-worthy!
Bri - I feel almost humbled to have the very person who created the pumpkin masterpiece comment on my blog!
[If you don't know what I'm taking about check it out on Diana's blog http://www.dianagabaldon.com/from-the-fans/fan-art ]
I love Alexander Skarsgard (Zoolander, anyone?). Though I think that he looks rather old to be Jamie in the first book. And also, since he is Swedish, I think it would be doubly hard for him to imitate a Scottish accent.
Only two problems.
1) Alexander Sgarsgard was born during Tom Baker s' run as Doctor Who.
2) His name is Jamie McCrimmon and he is played by Fraser Hines- or are you talking about another person actually named Jamie Fraser who is unrelated to the Whoniverse...
Gaia - Jamie Fraser is the main character in Diana Gabaldon's Outlander books which are being adapted as we speak into a Starz TV series. Actor Sam Heughan is playing the role of Jamie Fraser. (Much better choice than Alex Skarsgard).
The only connection between Outlander and Dr Who is that the author was looking for inspiration whilst watching an old episode of Dr Who with Fraser Hines and thought "Ooooo ... kilts" and thus based her story in Scotland!
If you haven't read the books I would highly recommend them!
