Jamie and Claire Fraser ipad Case!

For Diana Gabaldon fans who frequent the Compuserve forum I'm sure you are familiar with the fantastic artwork by Silvia aka Bluesquint depicting some of our favourite Outlander characters (in various stages of undress).  I was surprised when I came across this ipad case on Zazzle showing some of her artwork! I don't have an ipad but if I did it would be covered in this case!

Alex Pettyfer Grew Up

The English actor Alex Pettyfer was previously mentioned as a possible candidate to play the 19 year old William if one was needed for the movie/mini-series but common sense dictated that by the time any movie makers got to the point where Echo was put on film he would be too old. Others thought he would make a great Jamie but at the time I thought he was a little too young and a little too scrawny but guess what?

 He Grew Up!

One of the aspects that I have long since realised with choosing possible Jamie candidates is that everyone wants to see a more mature Jamie rather than the younger,  more "innocent" Jamie that we first see in Outlander.  I honestly believe that we need two different actors in the role because no man can be both a 22 year old virgin and a 50 odd year old without an amazing amount of work in the make-up and special effects departments.

Unlike almost all other Jamie candidates Alex is an ideal age being just 22 and as a added bonus we get to see him in action in "Magic Mike" about male strippers which should give us an idea just how hot ... sorry I mean talented he is! He may be a little short at just 5'11" but with the right camera angle it may work.

Matthew Goode as Roger Wakefield MacKenzie

I watched the film Leap Year about a year ago after buying it on DVD in a buy three for the price of two deal in HMV.  I have to admit that I only bought it because I had to buy two DVD's anyway for Christmas gifts so decided to pick up an extra one for myself. However, Leap Year has become one of my all time favourite movies because it's such a lovely romance story which you can watch more than once.

Matthew Goode is an English actor who was playing an Irishman in the movie.  Personally the accent sounded fine to me but in an interview he apologised for the awful accent to who am I to judge?  Whether he would do any better at a Scottish accent I have no idea but I'm sure he would be authentic enough to pass the test.

Why do I think he could play Roger?  I think there is just something about him that would be ideal for the the part. We know whoever plays Roger has to be able to portray the character as someone who can move from being an Oxford Don, a Scottish folk singer and at the same time look like a pirate! In the photograph above Matthew Goode is unshaven and looking a little rough around the edges and I can definitely see Claire describing him as a black Celt. However as he's an actor and a fairly good one the picture below shows the way he would look to his students in lectures!

Unlike a lot of other potential Roger's he's 6'2" tall and at 34 years old he's the ideal age. I think that he would show Roger's more sensitive side yet at the same time would be tough when needed and and could never be described as a wimp. There is one scene in the Leap Year movie where he is fighting which particularly reminds me of Roger because whilst he's a great fighter he does so reluctantly.

Songs which remind me of Outlander!

I thought I would share this beautiful video with my fellow Outlander fans. It really reminds me of the time when Claire had returned to the 20th century and left Jamie behind to die at Culloden. Not only does the song capture the sadness she must have felt but the video includes some amazing photography of Scotland ... there is also a wonderful stone circle shown! Enjoy and try not to cry too much!
